        THE DRAGON SONG
        Lyrics by Ryleh the Wanderer
Sung to the tune of "What Shall We Do With A Drunken Sailor?" (traditional)

The following song was suggested to me by my girlfriend one very strange night when we were both in a wild, fey mood. Unexpectedly, she turned to me and asked quite seriously: "Are there any songs about drunken dragons???" Now considering the circumstances, her question struck me as wildly hilarious as I was certainly not thinking of dragons--much less dragons in their cups!--at the time. If you've been there before, you know whereof I speak. If not, then you've really got something to look forward to (chuckle)!!!

On further reflection, however, I realized that I had never, ever heard a song before dealing with that particular subject! She then suggested writing such a song, using the tune to the old, traditional sea chanty "What Shall We Do With A Drunken Sailor?" as a base. The rest, as they say, was history...

Feel free to sing the following verses both long and loudly at Faire! My own preference would be at the Sea Devil Tavern at the Texas Renaissance Festival between performances by the "Lascivious Lasses"--but that's my personal bias. Also feel free to add more verses: the bawdier, the better! My only request is that you credit me, Ryleh the Wanderer, as the author of these lyrics at any publick performances of this song. Otherwise, have at it--and enjoy!

What shall we do with a drunken dragon,
What shall we do with a drunken dragon,
What shall we do with a drunken dragon,
        earlye in the mornin'?
        (Chorus)
        Hooray an' up she rises,
        Hooray an' up she rises,
        Hooray an' up she rises,
        earlye in the mornin'!

Sell 'im to an alchemist as a furnace,
Sell 'im to an alchemist as a furnace,
Sell 'im to an alchemist as a furnace,
        earlye in the mornin'!
        (Chorus)
        Hooray an' up she rises...

Put 'im in the corner with a stovepipe on 'im,
Put 'im in the corner with a stovepipe on 'im,
Put 'im in the corner with a stovepipe on 'im,
        earlye in the mornin'!
        (Chorus)

Sell 'im t'ConRail as a locomotive,
Sell 'im t'ConRail as a locomotive,
Sell 'im t'ConRail as a locomotive,
        earlye in the mornin'!
        (Chorus)

Hide 'im in the smokehouse 'til it's over,
Hide 'im in the smokehouse 'til it's over,
Hide 'im in the smokehouse 'til it's over,
        earlye in the mornin'!
        (Chorus)

Sell 'im to a lab as a Bunsen Burner,
Sell 'im to a lab as a Bunsen Burner,
Sell 'im to a lab as a Bunsen Burner,
        earlye in the mornin'!
        (Chorus)

What do you call a drunken dragon?
What do you call a drunken dragon?
What do you call a drunken dragon?
        earlye in the mornin'!
        (Chorus)

Call him "Sir!" until he's sober,
Call him "Sir!" until he's sober,
Call him "Sir!" until he's sober,
        earlye in the mornin'!
        (Chorus)

Say "Noble Sir!" if he's hungover,
        "Noble Sir!" if he's hungover,
        "Noble Sir!" if he's hungover,
        earlye in the mornin'!
        (Chorus)

Say "Die, Foul Worm!" if he's sober,
"Die, Foul Worm!" if he's sober,
"Die, Foul Worm!" if he's sober,
        earlye in the mornin'!
        (Chorus)

Never sleep with a drunken dragon,
Never sleep with a drunken dragon,
Never sleep with a drunken dragon,
        earlye in the mornin'!
        (Chorus)

He'll toss'n turn all night long,
He'll toss'n turn all night long,
He'll toss'n turn all night long,
        'til earlye in the mornin'!
        (Chorus)

He'll be wanting ALL the covers!
He'll be wanting ALL the covers!
He'll be wanting ALL the covers!
        earlye in the mornin'!
        (Chorus)

He'll snore in your ear the whole night through,
He'll snore in your ear the whole night through,
He'll snore in your ear the whole night through,
        'til earlye in the mornin'!
        (Chorus)

You'll get no sleep all night long,
You'll get no sleep all night long,
You'll get no sleep all night long... (dramatic pause)
...and he'll want to make love in the morning!
        (Chorus)
