THE 1998 FORT TRYON PARK MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL
As Chronicled by Blackwolf the Dragonmaster
        AKA Richard Washington

Lady Nzingha (Beth Anna Ferguson), reacting feverently to the beat of Bob LePre's bongo drums (Photo, left). Bob and Rosemary Birandi, in addition to their duties with "St. Mark's Consort," are the official timpanists for the joust and Royal Processions... meaning that their knowledge of percussion is most welcome (and, to one or two of the knights, a bit unwelcome, as it were!).

This beautiful maiden cradles a cuddly pink dragon beside her (Photo, right). She is one of the several vendors who were nice enough to offer their wares to those who wished to have a bit of a keepsake of their day at Fort Tryon with them. Pat Battista of "The Magickal Forge" was one such returnee. He wondered when he saw me why I had not ordained to give him a call! I smiled at that, for I know Pat has always had a gentle heart 'neath his iron-loving exterior. The spectacle of the Blacksmith's art is something I have long respected, and Pat is clearly one of its true wizards! "Sew Soft," which is the business represented by our dragon-cuddling beauty, also is wizardly... especially when it comes to making good dragons.

From left to right (in Photo, left): Lady Elizabeth Drake; Her Majesty, Mary, Queen of Scots (with parasol--it was, as it turned out, a very warm day!); and Lord Devereaux of Essex, gazing down lovingly at the cute little girl who has just finished posing for another picture with the three of them.

Her Serene Highness Emerald Myst, Princess of the Wish Faeries (Tracy Lee Holden in Photo, right), fluttered down directly from her Kingdom of Wishmagic to grant as many wishes as possible to the younger knights and ladies of the Realm. Of course, as you can see, she herself has a wish for us as well: that our hearts be filled with joy, honesty, courage... and especially peace.
