Patrons fill the Sea Devil Tavern to enjoy one of the many fine musical performances offered on the tavern's open-air stage. Clandestine (bagpipes), Bosom Buddies (bawdy songs), Celtaire, Simon Spalding and Gibbon the Troubadour all had daily shows at the Tavern.
Says Mike Harris of Houston: "I go about four to five times a year (to TRF) if possible. My wife and I (and anyone else I can talk into going) go in costume every time, just as commoners, but we add to our costumes each year. My favorite hangout is the Sea Devil Tavern (If the wife leaves me be, that is). I go there around noon to listen to Clandestine, hear a few bawdy songs and stay most of the day. Swillen Guinness and Murphy's Amber Ale. God, I caint wait till next year!".
To which Ryleh would add: "I know that feeling well!"
Clandestine plays the stage at the Sea Devil Tavern. According to Michael Harris, this is "the best Celtic band in the world," adding "from Houston, of course." Regretfully, this was just one of the many entertainments and performances that Ryleh missed: TRF is simply so large it can't all be seen in a single weekend! (photo by Michael Harris).
Another act Ryleh missed was "Lizzy and Lucy (aka 'Loosey') at the Sea Devil Tavern, singing their dirty little ditties," says Mike. With a little luck and planning, mayhap Ryleh can catch them this year! (photo by Michael Harris).
This view, according to Mike, shows "some rogues for hire at the Pub. Great costumes!" Ryleh can only agree: this trio looks like crossovers from Thieves' World! Which might explain why--when Ryleh first viewed this picture--the song "Dirty Tricks (Done Cheap)" jumped immediately to mind!!! (photo by Michael Harris).
A beautious bevy of buxom barmaids shows some leg for the patrons at the Sea Devil Tavern. Methinks, though, that black nylons were invented a few years after the Renaissance--and Ryleh knows for a fact that sunglasses came sometime after 1700! But then with these ladies, who's complaining???!? (photo by Michael Harris).
