THE NEW YORK RENAISSANCE FAIRE STERLING FOREST
        by Richard Washington

Ah, the Magic she doth inspire within mine heart! Behold: Her Most Sovereign and Glorious Majesty, Elizabeth the First (portrayed here by Sterling Forest veteran Ann Alford)! Those of you who regularly read my "Site of the Issue" column in the Ink Blot newsletter (the Fellowship of the Black Spot homepage will tell you more about the Blot, if you'll kindly click here), you're already aware of how Elizabeth I has become the very icon of mine every dream! Which is to say, quite simply, I'm in Love! But methinks that the sensible thing to do would be to let Her Majesty's delightful face speak for itself, lest I go on too much about her (insert extremely romantic sigh here!). GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

Here be the postings of some of the highlights of the Faire. This sign is posted hither in Sterling's Village Green each year; and visitors are encouraged to post their own messages on the back of the sign. Mayhap I should do so meself 'pon my return here...

One of the newer events of this year's NYRF was the rather unusual sport of turtle racing, the virtues of which were extolled by one Englebert Humpp, Mawster of Turtle. Here he be lecturing ye spectators as to ye finer points of turtle racing lore and technique. He also introduced the crowd to the four turtles who were to be racing that day. The object, ostensibly, is to circumnavigate the Turtle Drome, as they dubbed this unusual tent. The first turtle to do this successfully wins the race; spectators are encouraged to wager upon which turtle would make a successful circumnavigation. The winning bettor receives... NOTHING! (Well, what in thunder did you silly Mortals expect? 'Twas all done in the name of fun, of course!).
