In the year of Our Lord 1954, the Crossbow Tournament was held with all the color and ceremony of a Medieval Pagaent and Festival. The events included horses, carriages, jousting, music, costumes, crossbow tournaments and feasting. We will again hold a Renaissance Festival in conjunction with the ACA Crossbow Tournament. Our purpose is for this event to help spread interest in the history and use of the Crossbow and to entertain the Royal Court and subjects in the ways of the Medieval and Renaissance period.
The American Crossbow Association has its' own interesting history. We were instrumental and successful with our attempts in the mid- to late-1950's in introducing legislation for Crossbow hunting in the State of Arkansas, which has opened up Crossbow hunting in other states as well. We have the only permanent Crossbow field established in a state park nation wide. With the help and assistance of Withrow Springs State Park staff and their Department of Parks and Tourism resources and our coveted sponsors, we are blessed with a unique network of support.
The American Crossbow Association is dedicated to the safe use of the Crossbow and are also dedicated to family values. Our event is held at the State Park (near Huntsville, Arkansas), where alcoholic beverages cannot be sold.
We are located 20 miles south of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, which is a major tourism destination. Eureka Springs has lodging resources to help with a large number of visitors we hope to attract. If you are not familiar with our state, the Fayetteville-Springdale region is one of the fastest growing regions in the country--and is only about 25 miles west of Huntsville. We expect to draw many people from there. Also, we are not far from Tulsa, Oklahoma; Springfield, Missouri; Fort Smith and Little Rock, Arkansas.
