If Medieval combat is not your style, then the sheer, brute strength displayed during the Ozark Highland Games might have appealed more to you. Only amatuers competed in the 1998 Games, but the judging was all professional! Among the many tests and feats of strength offered were "Throwing the Stone" (photo, left)...
And of course there was the "Caber Toss" -- in this case, a handy telephone pole! The object of this test is not only to lift the Caber and throw it, but to throw it with such strength and force that it will flip end-over-end after it strikes the ground!!! So here it goes...
AND AWAY! Definitely a game for "Manly" Men!!! The 1998 Ozark Highland games were very successful. Unfortunately, there will be no Highland Games in 1999 due to scheduling problems. However, we hope to have them return next year -- listen for the skirl of bagpipes in the year 2000!
